The Scottish legend died on January 17 after being diagnosed with dementia in 2021.

Football fans also attended – from a distance – to pay their respects.

Sir Alex paid tribute to Law in January, saying: “Once you knew Denis and saw him as a player, you just thought ‘wow, this is a player’.

“There is a saying in Scotland, ‘Who do you think you are? Denis Law?’.”

He went on: “He was the best Scottish player of all time. He was a fantastic player.

“He epitomises Scotland, fighting away, having a fight in an empty house. He was an incredible human being.”

Law remains the only Scottish player to have ever won the Ballon d’Or – considered one of football’s most prestigious individual awards.

No other man has scored more goals for the national team.

Alex Stepney, Willie Morgan and Brian Kidd were among Law’s former Manchester United teammates at the service, as was former Manchester City contemporary Mike Summerbee.
