The suspect in Sweden’s mass shooting which saw 11 people killed on Tuesday has been named locally as Rickard Andersson, 35.

Andersson allegedly carried out the massacre at the adult education centre in the town of Orebro, around 200km (125 miles) west of the capital Stockholm, before apparently turning the weapon on himself.

What do police say about the attacker?

Police are yet to confirm the attacker’s identity but said the gunman is believed to have acted alone and their motive is still unclear.

Police also said the attacker was not known to officers before Tuesday’s violence – the worst mass shooting in Sweden’s history.

What else has been reported?

The police discovered Andersson’s body at the scene.

A hunting weapon for which Andersson had a licence was found next to his body, Swedish channel TV4 reports.

Andersson, who appeared to not have worked since 2014, was found to have had “major problems at school”.

His school performance was also reviewed as “problematic”, TV4 reported, as he failed all subjects from the spring semester of grade eight and throughout grade nine.

The suspect went on to study an individual programme before attending a special class for people with Asperger’s and high-functioning autism at Wadkoping Education Center in Orebro.

He passed in aesthetic activities and history but failed in all other subjects.

The alleged attacker had previously been enrolled at the adult education centre where Tuesday’s shooting happened.

He was reportedly there for several mathematics classes but he didn’t finish them, according to documents viewed by newspaper Aftonbladet.

The most recent class he was enrolled for was in 2021.

The centre where the attack was carried out teaches adults who did not complete school or are seeking higher grades to access higher education. It is located on a campus that also houses schools for children.

Swedish media reported Andersson didn’t have a high school certificate, with TV4 saying that was why he wasn’t mustered for military service.

Other details

Aftonbladet, which spoke to relatives of the man believed to be the gunman, described him as a recluse who had limited contact with his family for years.

Citing unnamed sources, the paper reported that the attacker hid his weapon in a “guitar-shaped” box and changed clothes in the school bathroom before he started shooting.

What’s his social media presence?

A Facebook profile seemingly matching a picture of Andersson shows him as having had 12 remote friends and living in Orebro.

Sky News couldn’t immediately find an Instagram profile linked to him.
