Joanne Penney, 40, died on Sunday 9 March after being shot in Llys Illtyd, Talbot Green.

Formal identification took place on Wednesday afternoon, South Wales Police said in an update.

A 20-year-old man from the St Mellons area of Cardiff has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

A 42-year-old local man who was arrested on Sunday has since been released without charge.

Four people who were arrested in the Leicestershire police force area remain in custody after magistrates granted a warrant of further detention.

The four arrested in Leicestershire were a 21-year-old woman from Oadby, Leicestershire; a 27-year-old man from Oadby, Leicestershire; a 68-year-old man from Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, and a 39-year-old woman from Leicester.

Speaking at the scene on Tuesday evening, detectives said they were exploring a number of possibilities, including one possibility that Ms Penney was the victim of mistaken identity.

Police have appealed for any dashcam or CCTV footage of two vehicles which travelled from the Leicester area into South Wales, namely a beige Nissan Note and a black Volvo XC40.

South Wales Police said its enquiries had found the vehicles travelled to the area sometime after 10.30am on Sunday and left shortly after the incident.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes said the investigation team was “making significant progress with [its] enquiries”.

“Whilst this additional arrest is a significant development, the investigation into Joanne’s death is continuing and we have a team of experienced detectives and specialist staff working hard to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident,” she added.
