Bomb disposal experts are investigating items found at a property in Plymouth as a number of homes are evacuated, police say.
Officers carried out a warrant at a property in College Avenue on Tuesday morning where a white British man, 26, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate.
He remains in police custody.
Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: “Emergency services are working at a property in College Avenue after officers located items which require expert analysis from an explosive ordnance disposal team.”
A number of properties have been evacuated, with a 100m police cordon in place in the Mutley area of the city.
The force said: “The cordon is in place for public safety and to allow suitable access for emergency services at the scene while this work is ongoing.”
The incident is not believed to be terror-related, and there is not thought to be any wider risk to the public.
