Officers went to a home in Shirburn Road, Torquay, shortly before 4pm on Saturday following concerns for a woman.

The woman, in her 70s, was found dead inside the property. Her death is being treated as unexplained.

Police also attended a home in Hythe, near Southampton, at around 2.45pm on the same day. The body of a man in his 40s was found and his death is not suspicious.

Officers have launched an investigation into both deaths.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man and woman are believed to have known each other.

The force’s Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “This is a very sad incident and we are supporting the next of kin of those who have died.

“We continue to work with our colleagues from Hampshire Police as we investigate this matter.

‘A thorough investigation of both addresses’

DCI Pebworth continued: “Officers are carrying out inquiries to establish exactly what has happened and cordons are in place to allow for a thorough investigation of both addresses.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we encourage anyone to speak with officers if they have any concerns.”

The next of kin to both have been informed.

Hampshire Police said: “We were called at 2.44pm yesterday by South Central Service Ambulance Service reporting the unexplained death of a 42-year-old man at a property in Waterside, Hythe.

“His death is being treated as unexplained but is not currently being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.”
