Cambridgeshire Police have begun a murder investigation after the death of a baby boy with a head injury.
Atijus Elertaite, who was three months old, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition on January 3.
Officers were called to a property in St John’s Chase in the town of March just after 11am.
Atijus died five days later on January 8. Police said that a post-mortem examination recorded his preliminary cause of death as a head injury, pending further medical inquiries.
They added that a 22-year-old man and a woman, aged 25, both from March, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) before Atijus’s death.
On Thursday, the pair were re-arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann said: “We know the local community will be shocked and deeply saddened, and our thoughts remain with those affected by Atijus’ death.
