Two men have been charged in connection with an incident at London’s Heathrow Airport which left 21 people requiring medical treatment.
Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, have each been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of administering a noxious substance after the incident at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 on Sunday, HM Courts and Tribunal Service staff said.
Officers were called at 8.11am on Sunday to a multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 following reports of multiple people being assaulted, said the Metropolitan Police.
London Ambulance Service attended the scene and treated 21 people, including a three-year-old girl. Five people were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
The incident did not affect flights but it did impact those arriving and leaving the airport.
Some passengers complained they were forced to wait three hours for a shuttle bus to the long-stay car park – a service which usually runs every 15 minutes.
There was also disruption to train and London Underground services.
Queues were seen forming at stations after delays on the Elizabeth and Piccadilly lines, and on the approach roads to the M4 as police searched vehicles.
