Toothfairy, a digital dentistry service, is putting its money where its mouth is by securing £10m (£7.3m) from a syndicate of international investors.

Sky News understands that Toothfairy will announce later this week that it has raised the funds in a round led by LBO France, with firms including CRB Health and Portfolio Ventures also participating.

Toothfairy offers on-demand dental care at a time when pressure on NHS dentistry services has created a crisis in provision for many people across the country.

The company was founded in 2019 by Deepak Aulak and Kian Dhinsa, two dentists who initially raised a $5m seed funding round in 2021.

Like comparable digital GP services, Toothfairy connects patients with licensed dentists through an app for emergencies, clinic referrals, prescriptions and cosmetic treatments.

It also delivers access to one-to-one dental advice, clinical assessments, prescriptions, and oral health toolkits – which it says are driven by its proprietary artificial intelligence technology.

“Dental care was outdated and had multiple barriers to access, which is why we have been pioneering digital dentistry to bridge the gap for those who struggle to access or afford treatment – a gap that too often leads to life-changing chronic issues,” said Dr Aulak.
“This investment will help us expand into new verticals and continue our aim to make dentistry more accessible and affordable for all globally.”

Existing investors including ADA Ventures, Haatch and Slingshot also injected funding as part of the round.

“The current oral health system in the UK is inefficient and underserved, leaving millions without adequate dental care,” said Neyla Merheb, investment director at LBO France.

“Toothfairy has found an innovative and affordable way for employers and insurers to provide oral healthcare, enabling earlier treatment and prevention of costly and painful medical conditions.”
