Prince William was among heartbroken Aston Villa fans after the club was knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.

On Tuesday, the Midlands club went into the second-leg quarter-final tie as underdogs, facing an uphill battle against the French champions after losing 3-1 last week.

While Unai Emery’s men pushed PSG close, ultimately winning 3-2 on the night, the aggregate score finished 5-4, so it was heartbreak for the royal football fan.

William had been in attendance with his 11-year-old son Prince George.

George wore his claret and blue scarf and was seen waving his arms in celebration with his father after the goals.

The father-son duo were also in attendance for the first leg in Paris, with William even taking part in some pre-game analysis.

During Tuesday night’s game, the royal went through the emotional wringer during the game.

He was pictured enjoying the ups and downs, celebrating Villa’s quick-fire double but ultimately leaving heartbroken.

Heartbreak and joy for William

‘Wearing my lucky clothes’

Ahead of the first game in Paris last week, William spoke to TNT Sports pundits Ally McCoist and Rio Ferdinand.

He admitted being “pretty terrified” and “nervous” but said he was “wearing all my lucky clothes”.

Asked by former England defender Ferdinand if he was on a “lads tour” to the match with friends, William said: “Well, I’ve got my son here as well, so I’m on best behaviour as well.

“But I thought: You know what, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.

“I hope it’s not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me.”
